Action Alert: Where Are the Refugees?

It’s time to tell our legislators to ask where the refugees are!

The world is witnessing the displacement of a record-breaking 65 million people. The Trump Administration promised to take in 45,000 refugees this year (during the Obama presidency the average was 69,250), but the fiscal year is more than 2/3 over and only 14,500 refugees have been granted entry. At this rate, the U.S. will admit only 21,000 refugees this year — by far the lowest number since 1980, when modern refugee policies were put in place.

Sen. David Perdue: (202) 224-3521

District 9 Rep. Doug Collins: (202) 225-9893

At the time of greatest need, our government is leaving families languishing in harm’s way. We used to be a world leader in refugee resettlement; now the Trump Administration has deliberately slowed down the application process and shut the door on Syrian war refugees. Even applicants who served alongside U.S. military forces in Afghanistan and Iraq are being kept out.

Please call your senators and congressional representative to demand that the U.S. honor its commitment to resettle 45,000 refugees this year. As the wealthiest country in the world, we can do that and much more. Georgia Advocacy Action has lots of facts and figures if you want to have them at your fingertips.

Personalized calls are more effective than multiple calls reading the same script, so express your personal feelings frankly! Here is an example script that you can build off of or use:

Hello,

My name is [NAME], calling from [CITY]. The Trump Administration committed to accepting 45,000 refugees this fiscal year, but less than 15,000 have been admitted. I want [REP./SENATOR’S NAME] to publicly ask, ‘Where are the refugees?’ and demand that the Trump Administration honor its commitment to resettle 45,000 refugees.

Thank you for the chance to share my concerns.

Please call your senators and representatives TODAY.

TELL THEM: We support accepting refugees!

Thanks for caring,
