Action Alert: We Want Real Paper Ballots

It’s time to tell our legislators we want real paper ballots.

Call or email:

Rep. Spencer Frye: or (404) 656-0265 Rep.-Elect Houston Gaines:  Rep.-Elect Marcus Wiedower: or (706) 254-3251  Sen. Bill Cowsert: or (404) 463-1366  Sen. Frank Ginn: or (404) 656-4700

Make sure to tell your friends in other districts to call their state legislators, too. Don’t know who your legislators are? Find out here.

By now, you’ve probably heard a lot about the debate over Georgia’s voting system. Many voters across the state now realize our current system is vulnerable to hacking and outdated and that it doesn’t have a way to back up our votes to make sure every voice is heard. Even before this year’s election, elected officials agreed that we needed to replace the current system with something better.

Unfortunately, Georgia’s SAFE (Secure, Accessible & Fair Elections) Commission is recommending the wrong option. Despite the staggering levels of conflict of interest and the fact that many citizens contacted them to request hand-marked paper ballots, the commission recommended a new system that is still vulnerable to hacking and would cost Georgians $100 million (as compared to $30 million for hand-marked paper ballots). The one cybersecurity professional on the commission, Georgia Tech professor Wenke Lee, said the only sure way to secure our elections is hand-marked paper ballots.

Clearly, Governor Kemp and his political allies don’t believe in protecting your vote. We’re not going to let this happen without a fight. The SAFE Commission’s recommendation is not binding. Legislators still have the power to switch Georgia to a secure paper ballot system. Please contact your legislators and tell them that you support a hand-marked paper ballot system.

Personalized calls are more effective than multiple calls reading the same script, so express your personal feelings frankly! Here is an example script that you can build off of or use:

Hello, My name is [NAME], calling from [CITY]. I’m calling today because I believe the only to secure Georgia’s elections is to transition to a hand-marked paper ballot system. Touch-screen voting systems are proven to be vulnerable to hacking by those who wish to undermine democracy in our state, and the bar-code based system recommended by the SAFE Commission is outrageously expensive and still vulnerable. The only way to truly secure our elections is to move to a hand-marked paper ballot system. I hope that when the topic comes before the general assembly, you will push your fellow legislators to move in this direction. Thank you for the chance to share my concerns.

Feel free to modify the script, depending on whom you’re calling.

Please contact your legislators TODAY.

TELL THEM: We want real paper ballots!

Thanks for caring,
