Quick is out! Special election planned for November

Regina Quick is leaving her seat in district 117 to become a Superior Court judge.

Athens for Everyone has received word that Regina Quick has been appointed by Governor Deal to replace the retiring Superior Court Judge David Sweat on the Western Judicial Circuit of the Superior Court. This means there will be a special election this November to pick her successor.

Regina Quick has already stated that she is not running for re-election in GA district 117, which includes parts of Athens, Oconee and Jackson county. Two Republican candidates, the former Democrat turncoat Doug McKillip and Houston Gaines, Nancy Denson’s campaign manager in 2014 are running for the open seat.

On the Democratic side, Deborah Gonzalez has already declared her candidacy and rumor has it that there will likely be other intriguing candidates as well!

Of course, who will run in the special election and who will run in 2018 has yet to be determined. How exciting! Make sure to stay tuned to athensforeveryone.com for more updates!
